California Federal Court Rejects Challenge to Federal Defense of Marriage Act

www.LC.org

During a court hearing yesterday, an Orange County, California federal district court judge indicated that he is dismissing a last-ditch effort by "same-sex marriage" proponents to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). In 2004, Liberty Counsel intervened in this case (Smelt v. Orange County) on behalf of Campaign for California Families, in order to protect marriage as the union of one man and one woman and to defend DOMA.
Although this is an important victory, the work to protect marriage is not over. The federal Defense of Marriage Act has survived another attack, but the only permanent solution is to protect marriage in a constitutional amendment. We cannot continue to hold our breath each time a judge considers the federal law.

Sign the Petition for a Federal Marriage Amendment. We need to join together and let Congress know that marriage, the foundation of society, must be preserved!

Read our News Release for more details on this victory.

Ban On Adoption By Homosexuals Will Appear on Arkansas Ballot

Arkansas voters will have the chance to prevent adoption and foster parenting by homosexual couples in that state. Over 85,000 of the required 61,974 voter's signatures were gathered to place a proposal on the November 4 ballot.
The ballot measure states in part: "(a) A minor may not be adopted or placed in a foster home if the individual seeking to adopt or to serve as a foster parent is cohabiting with a sexual partner outside of a marriage which is valid under the constitution and laws of this state. (b) The prohibition of this section applies equally to cohabiting opposite-sex and same-sex individuals."

The measure is expected to encourage a high pro-family voter turnout in Arkansas.

Arkansas Gay Ban brings you these weekly Bible verses:

Genesis 23:1-6

Sarah’s Death and Burial

1 Sarah lived one hundred and twenty-seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.

2 So Sarah died in Kirjath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

3 Then Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,

4 “I am a foreigner and a visitor among you. Give me property for a burial place among you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

5
And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

6 “Hear us, my lord: You are a mighty prince among us; bury your dead in the choicest of our burial places. None of us will withhold from you his burial place, that you may bury your dead.”
