Against Gay Marriage

"I Do" or "Please Don't": Hawaii's Gay Marriages

With the recent decision by the Hawaii courts regarding the legalization of marriage between same-sex couples, a political debate across the United States has begun. It is argued by the writer of this six page essay that if the states have any will, however, they will not fold to the pressure put on them by this state and the gay rights groups, they will continue to not recognize a man and man or a woman and woman as a man and wife. The essayist states that it is obvious that the only advantage to same-sex unions for homosexuals is the legal and economic benefits.

"Gay Marriage: In Comparison To Incest and Polygamy Relationships

Opening the legal door to gay marriage in America is morally and ideologically unsound when other, traditionally shunned institutions like polygamy and incest remain illegal. As the author points out, the problem with this issue is not the slippery slope; the primary assertion is that, just as most Americans should maintain incest and polygamy as socially unacceptable practices, so too should they disallow same-sex marriage. The writer contests that if we are willing to use tradition, utility, religion and morality as reasons for opposing polygamy and incest, then we should be allowed to use the same arguments against gay marriage.

Arguments Against Gay Marriage

Controversy

The moral legitimacy of marriage between two people of the same sex hinges on how the authoritative definition of marriage is derived. If marriage is to have a religious foundation, the interpretation of religious texts and traditions will be key; if marriage is a social institution or even a purely economic coupling, pragmatic arguments will have more force, though moral issues will no doubt still arise. Gay rights advocates assert that gay marriage is a right which should not be limited to opposite-sex couples. Their opponents assert that same-sex marriage cannot be allowed on moral and/or religious grounds, or on the grounds that it will lead to a breakdown of society. The debate is often perceived as being same sex marriage advocates vs. religious (e.g. fundamentalist) or moral opponents. However, corporations and other fiscally concerned parties sometimes oppose same-sex marriages not on any religious or moral grounds but instead with the aim of preserving the status quo to avoid extending coverage to the families (i.e. any married partners) of homosexual employees. Those in favor of same-sex marriage, however, argue that gays and lesbians contribute as much as straight people to the funding for private and public family coverage even when they have no access to it

According to the author, the fact of the matter is that homosexual marriages are wrong and we, as a country, should not condone such acts. Marriage, as the piece described it, is the institution whereby men and women are joined in a special kind of social and legal dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family. The writer concludes that, by admitting homosexual and lesbian relationships to the privileges of the married state we would devalue this transcendent status and weaken the duties and the sense of obligation it entails. No same sex marriage is best. Marriage Amendment in Alabama Nearly all people at all times have defined "marriage" in such a way that at least one male and one female were involved. Some societies have from ancient times permitted a man to have multiple wives, but those wives had congress only with the man -- not each other. But some rare variations have appeared such as polyandry (one woman with multiple husbands) and "group marriage". Though religions will perform marriages based on their own doctrinal definitions, these may or may not be recognized by the government depending on local laws. Governments will often provide opportunity for state-sanctioned legal marriages that are entirely secular and without religious influence (commonly called 'civil marriages'). They may or may not be recognized by certain religions. Some countries require all marriages to be civil, and expect the religious ceremony to occur at some later time. Generally, it is the government's definition of marriage that the same-sex marriage debate centers around. See marriage. The definition of marriage proposed by gay rights advocates seeks to include both homosexual and heterosexual relationships by recognizing only the common attributes between them. They define marriage to be: A socially sanctioned, voluntary, committed, monogamous, legally contracted union, of two adult people, which the government and/or society recognizes by conferring certain rights, privileges and responsibilities, such as finances, taxes, and inheritance, child-raising, adoption, visitation, and medical decision-making. For same-sex marriage proponents, the above achieves equalization of the male-male, female-female, and male-female relationship. Being able to marry whomever they choose is seen as a civil right that should not be abridged by the government. Defenders of traditional marriage argue that only a heterosexual union can provide the procreative foundation of the family unit that has been a chief social building block of civilization. They argue that the definition proposed by same-gender marriage advocates changes the social importance of marriage from morality to custom. As any customary relationship may be considered "marriage" some argue that this then leads to undue legislative burden and an affront to the social value and responsibility of parenting your own children. Some same-sex marriage proponents, such as Andrew Sullivan, argue that their definition retains enough moral underpinning to support the familial role marriage plays in society even though they are unable to directly parent children between them. Others argue that marriage no longer retains a procreative interest to the government, and that the other measures should replace marriage in ensuring parental responsibility. Historic alterations in the customs and protocols of marriage give rise to the argument that marriage is dynamic and same-gender acceptance is the latest evolution of marriage. Some societies have from ancient times permitted spouses to have multiple concurrent marriages while many societies discourage this practice today. Having more than one marriage at the same time is called polygamy for men and polyandry for women. The latter is relatively much more rare. Marriages that involve more than two people at one time in a single act of matrimony are considered to be a "group marriage" and are even more rare. There have been many ritual homosexual unions practiced historically that provide many of the same benefits entitled traditionally to marriages. Some cultures have considered a set of strictly defined and regulated homosexual qualities to denote a gender that transcended both male and female. As a third state of gender they were allowed to marry men or women. Some people in the position to write the law for their country indulged themselves in calling some of their same-gender relationships a marriage, though they assumed no familial attachment. Calling a heterosexual union the same legal term as a homosexual union for a whole state or society is only a recent occurrence. As a Married man who is also a Christian, which I make no apologies for. In fact I shout about it to everyone who will listen. I found “the truth” and am an Ambassador of a Heavenly Kingdom on earth. To not recognize God is to doom yourself to eternal death . Now to some people death is death and so what. So everyone seems to seek peace, prosperity and happiness. What the God’s eternal promise of that is to have those things on earth as favored buy man & God, and eternally in heaven. However our foundations of Government, our schools and our marriages are founded on Christian principles and laws. Laws that started with one man and one woman in a Covenant Marriage with God as the head the man as the protector and the woman as his helpmate. This is fundamental in looking at the term marriage. Some people will try to always rationalize there actions even if they are against the natural and written laws given to us by a Loving Eternal Father God who is a God of Order and a just God. He wrote the owners manual for these human bodies and ordered our society. The greatest Lie sent from the author of lies and death and destruction is YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION TO GOD’S LAWS JUST DO WHAT YOU WANT, WHAT FEELS GOOD. IT WON’T HURT YOU! Life has proven otherwise. There is always a price extracted for ignoring god’s laws and mans laws. You may think your getting away with something, but it all goes to your account. If its God’s laws you are violating you are in rebellion or Sin. The bottom line is unrepeated sin is sickness, emptiness, unhappiness and Death. The price of disobeying man’s laws is different for the severity of the crime, from loss of finances, loss of freedom, loss of life. The biggest difference is you may get away breaking man’s laws, you will never get away with breaking God’s laws. The Laws of this land is what counts in The United States. In all but one state currently the Gay lifestyle breaks the law under the Sodomy statutes. To condone Gay Marriages is to break this law. And to encourage child molestation and other aberrant behaviors. God’s law says that Sodomy is unhealthy, sinful and should be delt with disastrously as in his judgment on Sodom and Gomorra. To even look back is to seek sin and garner destruction as with Lott’s Wife. History itself purports that one of the causes of the Great Roman Empire’s downfall had to do with rampant homosexual relations and general excepted debauchery. As well as lead poisoning from the pipes. Between the advent of legal abortion and a growing homosexual lifestyle and the breakdown of the solid family marriage, fundamental to growth and stability of our nation, we have seen a breakdown in social security and tax base to this country. Do you wonder why the social security administration will be bankrupt in a very few years. Try killing 4 million future new tax payers annually and see what you get. Or changing the average family from a strong moral base to a group of sexually immoral and corrupt group of broken homes and children born out of wedlock. Sure its ok to get divorced, have a godless society, the sexual revolution can take part in this. What about homosexual relationships, other than the fact that they cause more STD’s, more childless relationships, more mental health problems, and other major social problems. You Take God and his laws out of society you will garner a dying society. We can turn our backs on the coming vote on Same Sex Marriage Amendment and let it pass and answer to God one day for knowing what is right and not doing. He calls this Sin in the bible. Or we can register, If you aren’t, and stand up for God’s laws and vote it down in Alabama. And see God smile on you.

Against Gay Marriage brings you these lessons in Christian History

March 18, 386:
Cyril, bishop of Jerusalem from 315, dies. Best known for his series of discourses given during Lent for those to be baptized on Easter, he early on advocated the veneration of relics and argued for transubstantiationthe doctrine that the bread and wine of Communion become the actual body and blood of Christ.

March 18, 1123:
The First Lateran Council opens in Rome. Convoked by Callistus II, it repeated and confirmed earlier decrees. The Western church, however, remembers its importance as being the first "ecumenical council" held in the West.

March 18, 1314:
Thirty-nine Knights Templar are burned at the stake in Paris. Though few others besides Dante championed the innocence of the oft-maligned military order, most scholars now agree with him. Created to protect pilgrims going to the Holy Land, had become wealthy after the crusades. Perhaps because of jealously, they were accused of sodomy, blasphemy, and heresy.

Genesis 26:5
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Leviticus 26:14
But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments;

1 Corinthians 7:19
Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
