Also, read the letter from the Alliance Defense Fund to Pastors regarding the church activities in support of the Virginia Marriage Amendment.

Web Sites - Stay informed about the latest information regarding the Virginia Marriage Amendment by periodically checking the following two web sites, which provide valuable information on the Virginia Marriage Amendment and links to other organizations supporting passage of the amendment: Virginia is for Marriage and Virginia CWA

“Back to School” Nights – Opportunity to Promote the Marriage Amendment - In districts across the state school has started. “Back to School” nights offer a prime opportunity to reach involved parents with information about the marriage amendment. Here is a step by step plan on how to use “Back to School” nights to get literature about the Virginia Marriage Amendment distributed in your community.

1) Contact your local school district, or friendly members of the local school board, to obtain a list of “Back to School” nights scheduled in your area.

2) Check to see if the school district allows distribution of materials at these events. This is usually a district–wide policy that you can verify from the school district office. If the school district allows political candidates to distribute their campaign information, you should also be able to distribute information about the Virginia Marriage Amendment.

4) If you can cover these costs locally or ask a local business to cover the cost, that would be ideal. If you or a business would like a receipt for an in-kind contribution, please forward a copy of the fair market value of the copying service and the name and address of the person making the contribution in-kind, to CWA of VA, P.O. Box 1101, Sterling, VA 20167 or fax to 703-430-4510.

5) Recruit fiends to help you cover the “Back to School” nights. It only takes about 30 minutes to distribute this information. Instruct your volunteers to go to the “Back to School” location about 20 minutes before the event is scheduled to start and plan to stay for about 10 minutes after the scheduled start time to catch late-comers.

You can localize the “Back to School” handout by asking local elected officials to endorse passage of the Marriage Amendment. See the information below about seeking endorsements of local elected officials.

Obtaining Local Endorsements for the Virginia Marriage Amendment - Support for the Virginia Marriage Amendment can be built by showing broad support among elected officials. This is done by asking them to publicly endorse its passage.

These endorsements can be obtained in a number of ways:

- In Person: Print the following on a piece of paper with a line for the elected official’s signature on it. Ask local officials to sign the statement of endorsement. Note on the paper the date and the event at which you obtained the signature. Attend community events or government meetings where elected officials will be accessible such as a community fair, a school board meeting, city council meeting or Board of Supervisors meeting.

Yes, I endorse passage of the Virginia Marriage Amendment.

The “Virginia is for Marriage” coalition is publishing a list of elected officials that endorse passage of the Virginia Marriage Amendment. Your signature on this form authorizes “Virginia is for Marriage” to use your name in print and web media.

- - - By e-mail: Cut and past this request into an e-mail message to your local elected officials asking for their support.

“Virginia is for Marriage” (www.VirginiaIsForMarriage.com) is assembling a list of elected officials in Virginia (federal, state and local) who endorse passage of the Virginia Marriage Amendment. If you would like to be included in the list, please reply to this e-mail and authorize the use of your name in print and web media.
